Overwhelmed Hong Kong Inhabitants in Disbelief as Massive Inferno Engulfs Residential Complexes

"Approaching the area, the temperature intensifies and you can feel it, with the haze being extremely heavy."

Young scholar Thomas Liu was among the many people gathered at the location of a deadly inferno that engulfed large portions of the eight-building Wang Fuk Court in the city's Tai Po area.

No fewer than 36 residents have perished in the recent destructive blaze currently, with many still missing, indicating that this figure will likely rise.

"It's a disaster," the witness stated about the blaze, adding that he had observed a victim being removed from the scene.

Over a thousand additional individuals were compelled to leave the development as the flames advanced, with some making their way to temporary shelters that have been established to accommodate them.

An elderly inhabitant, who has dwelled in block two of the housing complex for over four decades years, recalled hearing "a tremendous explosion" and observing blaze erupt in a close block.

"I immediately went back to collect my things," the 66-year-old resident remarked.

"I don't even know how I personally at this moment. I'm just pondering about where I'm going to rest tonight because I probably cannot go re-enter my residence."

Although the cause of the fire that overwhelmed the multiple high-rise buildings continues to be undetermined, the flames are believed to have rapidly expanded through the construction framework that surrounded the buildings, which were in the process of improvements.

Several residents have demonstrated frustration that such a massive incident could have occurred and criticised the emergency measures.

"During there's a brush fire, they will employ aircraft and release extinguishing materials, but why is there not any action and how can they permit additional structures burning?" questioned one more inhabitant of the complex.

"The community is so near to the fire department and we assumed the inferno could be extinguished rapidly, but currently the blaze has advanced. I'm so disheartened," she added.

The resident noted that she had been given minimal direction from the authorities on where to obtain assistance.

Several local residents had brought supplies to the victims - consisting of numerous of blankets and heat packs.

When asked about their emotions regarding the fire, residents stated that "the government is ineffective" and that they were "extremely distraught".
