China's Figure Skaters Under Probe After Displaying Toy Missile during Competition

ISU officials have launched an investigation after two Chinese figure skaters were seen holding what looked like a toy ballistic missile during a grand prix figure skating event.

Broadcast video showed the skaters waiting alongside a large toy shaped like a missile marked “DF-61” while waiting for their scores at the “kiss and cry” zone during the event.

This model represents a new Chinese-made ground-launched long-range weapon capable of carrying nuclear weapons, which was displayed at a military parade recently.

“The ISU have acknowledged of an unsuitable soft toy appears to have been among those thrown on to the rink by audience members following a routine during the competition,” the ISU commented via a release.

The item was then handled by the athletes who had just performed. The ISU regrets this occurrence and will look into it more deeply.”

Ren and Xing finished eighth of 10 pairs in the ice dance event, with the victory going to Madison Chock and Evan Bates from the US.
